August has been a wet and cold month here although rain is always most welcome! We normally expect winds to be blowing through our valleys so that the dry season starts but it seems as if winter does not want to let go! The animals have not been phased by the weather and we have had such amazing sightings. Thabo, one of our male cheetahs, has been around the Lodge, seeking company from our guests. We have also had a lot more sightings of Bukeka and her two cubs who are almost a year old now. Their hunting skills are improving with each attempt in assisting their mom to make a kill.
The Elephants have been browsing in the thick bush due to the amount of rain that we have had and seem to be poking out on the odd occurrences. These photos below I took while crouching under a dense bush which was well sheltered and the whole elephant herd walked past about 10m away. As per usual the youngsters are rather curious and the one in particular decided he was going to eat his way to me! He started coming closer and closer, at 3m I called it quits as his mother was looking straight into the bush so I thought it was best to make a hastily retreat.
Nature is just such an incredible thing and you can watch it for hours and never get bored, the Hopewell team is being kept busy and we look forward to your visit!
